2018 Fortulla 'Serpentino', Terratico di Bibbiona IGT, Italy

Price: $24.99

Founded in 1994, Fortulla is located on the Tuscan coast just north of the famous village Castiglioncello in the IGT Terratico di Bibbiona. It’s a small, very high quality estate mostly planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Vermentino. The vineyards sit on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean with exposure to the sun and persistent winds, which yield fruit with perfect phenolic ripeness, moderate sugar development, and fresh natural acidity. Total production is a mere 900 cases.

The 2018 ‘Serpentino’ is a blend of 90% Vermentino and 10% Viognier, the name coming from the green rocks of the same name found only in this area. Although not a traditional duo, Vermentino and Viognier seem to be a natural pair, the Vermentino bringing high-toned minerality and citrus while the Viognier adds a subtle hint of tropical fruits and melon.
