In Europe the production of wine has historically been focused on maintaining a sense of place, or terroir, that defines a wine by a certain set of characteristics and flavors. When the “New World” started to increase wine production, the notion of terroir became less important.

That isn’t to say that New World wines can’t possess “terroir”. They absolutely can! But winemakers were given a new leniency to produce quality wines, not just site-specific wines. This includes Nuclear Red, which includes grapes from Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Santa Barbara County, and is made from an unusual blend of 42% Cabernet, 23% Merlot, 14% Pinot Noir, 13% Syrah, and 8% Dolcetto. A bold, full-bodied red wine with raspberry and blackberry fruit on the nose, followed by dark cherry and chocolate flavors.
