Jean-Marc Roulot is among the greatest white wine producers in Burgundy. His Meursault wines reach a level of purity, clarity, finesse, and depth that put him at the top of the heap. His vineyards are farmed organically and oak use is subtle – both practices elevate the mineral expression in the wines based on the vineyard sources that are used. One additional technique used to capture purity is a limited stirring of lees. He prefers a leaner, more restrained profile on the palate in favor of intensity and mineral expression.
The Domaine wines of Roulot are among the most sought after wines in all of Burgundy and while we typically receive only 6 bottles total from any given vintage, we have an amazing opportunity to offer a few cases of his newest project, the 2008 Meursault “R”. This is a brand new project based en métayage meaning that the fruit that is owned by someone else, but farmed by Mr. Roulot. The fruit for the “R” is mainly sourced from the Vireuils lieu-dit vineyard in the upper section of the parcel. It is racy and mineral driven with pure flavors of pineapple, apple, chalk, and white flower. The acidity of the 2008 vintage is impressive and long on the palate. We continue to be amazed by the quality of this vintage and many compare its quality to the greatness of 1985 for White Burgundy. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but will certainly develop in the cellar over the next ten years. It is a true collector’s gem.
There will only be 3 cases of this wine available for purchase. The original shelf price was $114, but we are offering the remaining 3 cases at a reduced price of $88 a bottle!
