Jean-Marie Guffens achieved great fame by crafting top class wines in
the Mâconnais. Now, Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens are producing some
lovely, classically-styled Rhône wines at a 1200 foot elevation in the
Côtes du Luberon. They have resurrected a fine vineyard that was planted in
1956 and have crafted a splendid red wine from these old-vine Grenache
grapes.
"Endes 56" is 100% Grenache and enchants the senses with the pure,
strawberry fruit of the grape backed by hints of black pepper, lavender and
smoky spice. Opulent and rich on the palate, it offers a luscious
combination of red fruits, spice and earth nuances. This is a fabulous red
that belies its humble Vin de Pays appellation. If you love good
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but want a more affordable alternative, try this
wonderful Rhône red.
