Powerful Petit Sirah (aka Durif)

2004 Nugan Durif, Manuka Grove Vineyard, Southeastern Australia
$194.29/cs.     $17.99/btl.

Durif??? Originally introduced to Southern France in the 19th century, Dr. Durif lent his name to this hybrid of Syrah and Peloursin. Synonymous with the more widely recognized Petit Sirah this wine is packed with blackberry, blueberry and roasted plum fruit. Grown in the Australian interior, Nugan Estates relies on low crop yields, careful winemaking and the latest technology to create this generous yet structured red.

Matured in oak for 12 months, undertones of mint, clove and cocoa add complexity and richness to this dark and fruity selection. The Nugan Estate Durif was born to complement grilled beef, barbequed ribs and rich pasta dishes. It's a must for those who relish the power and depth of such varietals as Zinfandel, Aussie Shiraz, and Cabernet. Enjoy a bottle tonight or cellar it and indulge yourself and friends at a summer cookout.
