Spain, Rueda, Cachazo, El Perro Verde Blanco 2007
$6.99
The new vintage is on the way and the importer was VERY eager to sell the balance of the ’07 vintage to make room for the new goods. Thus, we got a GREAT DEAL on the last stocks of this excellent Spanish white. The Verdejo grape makes brilliant and memorable wine in central Spain’s Rueda region. The 2007 “El Perro Verde” Rueda from Bodegas Angel Lorenzo Cachazo offers enchanting aromatics, mouthwatering fruit and a bone dry finish. The name Verdejo may have come from the Spanish word verdugo, meaning “green shoot.” During the retreat of the Moors in the 10th century, this green shoot appeared in the aftermath of the burnt land the Moors left in their wake. The hot summers and scarce rainfall of Rueda favor the intense Verdejo character.
The ’07 El Perro Verde Rueda awakens the mind and recalls the style of a fine Viognier with scents of ripe pears, peaches, limes, honeysuckle and wet stones. The flavors are just as invigorating full of juicy pineapple, peach, melon, dried herbs, white pepper and a finish hinting at flinty smoke. Give this delicious white a go with citrus chicken or white fish with a fruit salsa.
