Whites-Full & Lucious--Classic & Familiar
France, Bourgogne, Verget, St Veran, Les Châtaigniers 2006
$22.99
We almost hesitate to mention this wine because our quantity available is limited and, once people try a white Burgundy this good, they're going to want more. St. Véran adjoins the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation - Mâcon's most celebrated site. When quality Chardonnay grapes are crafted into wines by skilled vintners like Maison Verget, the result can be (and is) truly astonishing!
This delectable St. Véran has a bright straw-yellow color. The aromas from the glass are varied and intriguing with ripe pear, apple, lemon, pineapple, and grapefruit scents backed by an ethereal floral component and a luscious, creamy influence. The flavors are wonderfully concentrated with ripe pear, apple, and pineapple fruit elements enhanced by hints of butter and cream. This intriguing panoply of flavors is followed by a long and bright finish with a lemony freshness that lingers pleasantly. Don't serve this succulent white too cold or you'll mask the rich fruit and delicate floral tones. This wine has a degree of richness and complexity more often associated with communal wines of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. If you love white Burgundy, you owe it to yourself to try this stellar example. Buy a few bottles while they're available, for the wine will provide much pleasure for the next year and beyond.
